Laurie Furman, MS, MSW is a licensed clinical social worker and has been working with children, adolescents and their families for 20 years. She specializes in relationship issues, incest/rape, depression, anxiety, parent/child problems, marital conflict, divorce and blended family issues, grief, loss, and coping with challenges of war.
Laurie focuses on improving relationships with a goal of strengthening families. She has been successful in helping clients to build healthy interpersonal and family interactions by highlighting existing strengths and resources and learning to develop new ones. This enables clients to gain self-awareness to enable them to cope with some of the challenges or obstacles that life presents.
Laurie consults with schools and institutions that serve children; she provides parent training workshops and group therapy for children and their parents on such topics as grief/loss, divorce, social skills, and gifted/talented.
Laurie has an MS degree from Vanderbilt University in developmental psychology in addition to her MSW degree (with a specialization in family therapy) from Washington University’s George Warren Brown’s School of Social Work. She is certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and has had Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) training.
